About Irvine - California Hotels
Long before developers embraced the idea of mixed
communities, there was Irvine. Archeological research establishes
prehistoric man in the
Irvine
area at least 12,000 years ago, possibly even 18,000
years ago. But officially,
Irvine was born in the 1960s, when the University of California commissioned architect William
Pereira to design a new campus and town.
Today, its population is a little over 200,000, yet
it feels much smaller thanks to its intimate
neighborhoods and more than 16,000 acres of green
space.
Today, Irvine has grown into what
many describe as a "total destination," a community
boasting state-of-the-art transportation programs
and systems, an enterprising business environment,
stellar educational institutions and a team-like
lifestyle. Money magazine ranked
Irvine as the 4th best place
to live in of the
US. Families say
Irvine is pretty close to
perfect. The school district has won national
recognition for stellar test scores, innovative
curriculums, year-round schedules and open-style
classrooms. The university is the city's largest
employer, but such as ConAgra, Gateway, Siebel
Systems, St. Toshiba American Information Systesm,
Kia Motors, Kawaski, Mitsubishi Digital Electric,
Allergan or John Knits call Irvine home.
The
Irvine Ranch is a treasured oasis for visitors who
cherish the beauty and serenity of a wildlife
sanctuary.
Irvine
is currently developing the El Toro Base (golf
course) into The Great Park. The
Great Park is in fact a three park experiences
in one. The Canyon is a beautiful oasis - a place to
wander and daydream, for families to picnic and for
children to explore. It includes a variety of
special plantings, from a
Meditation
Garden to one of the
world’s most striking palm collections.
